Plant Protection;

  • Option 1 (Budget); Spiral guards (clear no holes) 60cm x 50mm dia with supporting cane 90cm x 12/14lbs & Mesh guards (for the Holly) with supporting canes 90cm x 12/14lbs.

  • Option 2; Tubex tree shelters 60cm x 73-105mm dia. With supporting stake 75cm x 25mm².

Whilst the spiral guard and cane is the more cost effective from of plant protection initially, please be aware that the ongoing maintenance costs may be higher in comparison to tree shelters and stakes. The tree shelter and stake is a far more rigid product offering greater longevity.

Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi

Each pack comes complete with enough Rootgrow to adequately cover the number of plants.

The packs are available in the following quantities;

  • 50 plants and sundries (covers approx. 312m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 100 plants and sundries (covers approx. 624m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 250 plants and sundries (covers approx. 1560m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 500 plants and sundries (covers approx. 3120m² at 2.50m spacings)

Prior to planting your woodland it is essential to plan the layout and detail where species are to be planted, for example the larger growing species should be concentrated towards the centre with the medium sized trees and shrubs planted towards the woodland and ride edges.

Following planting make sure to fit the protection that day, so as not to leave any plants exposed to potential rabbit damage overnight.

For spirals and canes, insert the cane into the ground next to the plant and then place the spiral guard over the plant and cane. The only reason for the cane is to hold the spiral in place as this will not be supported by the plant.

For tree shelters and stakes, knock the stake in next to the plant leaving enough space for the shelter to go over the plant as the stake goes on the outside of the guard. Place the guard over the plant with the ratchet tie over the stake. Pull the tie tight around the stake to secure.

Planting is the first element of establishing a woodland; be sure to have a maintenance programme in place for the first three years.

I live in the far north of Scotland and my soil is very peaty and very boggy in most areas have you a woodland pack that would be ok for me some of this pack will be ok I no downy birch is ok but silver birch is not can you help

Good morning,

Yes, I am sure we can.

What we can do is tailor the pack to your needs (subject to availability) and only include species that will work on your soil type.

When placing your order simply include in the 'delivery instructions' box that you require stock suitable for peaty/damp soil and we will action accordingly.

I hope this helps and we look forward to hearing from you again.

The Trees & Hedging Team.

Hi there do you do a "stock friendly" pack? Thanks

Good morning,

Thank you for your question.

Not specifically, but we do have a 'Horse-Friendly' tab within the hedging header.

I would imagine (but not 100% sure) that this selection would be fine for hedging around a stock field.

I hope this helps, and please do not hesiate to contact us again should you need further help.

The Trees & Hedging Team.

We live by the sea and oaks don't seem to thrive in this area so wondering if there is anyway you can sub some other trees into this pack instead of oak? Would be happy to have some oak but maybe not the full 20% that the pack normally contains. Many thanks in advance Kirsty

Thank you for your enquiry.

The following species will do well on the coast and can be subbed for all (or some) of the Oak:

Alder/Poplar/White Willow/Sessile Oak/Beech.

If you advise which species you would prefer (in the notes section of the order) we will ensure this is done for you.

Many thanks,

The Trees and Hedging Team.
