A simple way to buy, plus benefit from savings as opposed to purchasing these items separately and NOW with FREE ROOTGROW.

With the ever increasing cost of heating oil and solid fuel, the demand from those wishing to plant their own area of woodland to provide an alternative and sustainable fuel source is on the up.

Our wood fuel pack offers an excellent range of tree species, all having recognised qualities as suitable for use as firewood and can generally be harvested from year seven onwards. Young tree species can also be coppiced from the ground to stimulate secondary growth and encourage more timber shoots. Each pack is provided with Rootgrow to ensure that your plants are given the best possible start.

The pack consists of;

% Species Height
20% Common Oak (Quercus robur) 30-50cm
20% Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) 40-60cm
20% Silver Birch (Betula pendula) 40-60cm
20% Green Beech (Fagus sylvatica) 40-60cm
20% Common Alder (Alnus glutinosa) 40-60cm

Plant Protection;

  • Option 1 (budget option); Spiral guards (clear no holes) 60cm x 50mm diameter with supporting cane 90cm x 12/14lbs.

  • Option 2; Tubex tree shelters 60cm x 73-105mm dia. With supporting stake 75cm x 25mm².

Whilst the spiral guard and cane is the more cost effective from of plant protection initially, please be aware that the ongoing maintenance costs may be higher in comparison to tree shelters and stakes. The tree shelter and stake is a far more rigid product offering greater longevity.

Rootgrow Mycorrhizal Fungi

Each pack comes complete with enough Rootgrow to adequately cover the number of plants.

The packs are available in the following quantities;

  • 50 plants and sundries (covers approx. 312m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 100 plants and sundries (covers approx. 624m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 250 plants and sundries (covers approx. 1560m² at 2.50m spacings)

  • 500 plants and sundries (covers approx. 3120m² at 2.50m spacings)

Following planting make sure to fit the protection that day, so as not to leave any plants exposed to potential rabbit damage overnight.

For spirals and canes, insert the cane into the ground next to the plant and then place the spiral guard over the plant and cane. The only reason for the cane is to hold the spiral in place as this will not be supported by the plant.

For tree shelters and stakes, knock the stake in next to the plant leaving enough space for the shelter to go over the plant as the stake goes on the outside of the guard. Place the guard over the plant with the ratchet tie over the stake. Pull the tie tight around the stake to secure.

Planting is the first element of establishing a woodland; be sure to have a maintenance programme in place for the first three years.

Are all of these trees in this pack excellent candidates for a 10-year rotation for coppicing or pollarding? Thank you very much.

Good morning,

Thank you for your question.

All trees in this pack are ideal for coppicing and will work on a 10 year rotation plan.

Due to varying growth rates, you will notice differing results and yield but all are selected for providing excellent fire wood.

I hope this helps and please do not hesitate to contact us again with any further questions/queries.

The Trees and Hedging Team.

Hi How long does it take to grow the trees before they are ready to fell for fire wood? Thanks

Thank you for your question.

We suggest that you are looking at 7 to 10 years subject to early years maintenance being satisfactory.

Hope this helps, regards the Trees and Hedging Team

Hi, I would like to plant a small woodland area at the front of the house. How close to the house can I plant? Thanks

Thank you for your question.

We would suggest that you plant no nearer than 10 metres. Woodland trees can be planted at 2.5 or 3 metre spacings.

Hope that helps

Many thanks from the Trees and Hedging Team
