Square sawn stakes are required to support Tubex shrub shelters, Tubex tree tubes, Tubex Ecostarts and mesh guard roll.

All of our square sawn stakes are manufactured from quality softwood timber and are pointed for easier ground entry with the use of a hammer. Each stake is pressure treated for longevity.

You will find that you get a year or two longer out of the 32mm² stakes, as opposed to the 25mm² stakes. If, however, you are planting on an exposed site, we will always recommend making use of the 32mm² stakes.

75cm stakes are recommended for 60cm Tubex tree tubes and Tubex Ecostarts.

90cm stakes are recommended for 75cm Tubex tree tubes and Tubex Ecostarts.

1.2m and 1.35m stakes are recommended for 1.2m Tubex tree tubes.

1.5m stakes are recommended for 1.5m Tubex tree tubes.

It is advisible to use a longer stake for sandier, lighter soils.

Hi, What does pressure treated mean - and how long appx. will they last please ?

Good morning,

Thank you for your question.

Pressure treatment is a process that forces chemical preservatives into the wood.

Wood is placed inside a closed cylinder, then vacuum and pressure are applied to force the preservatives into the wood.

The preservatives help protect the wood from attack by termites, other insects, and fungal decay.

This process is much more affective than 'dipping' which simply applies the preservative to the outer layer of the timber and not nearly as deep.

I would expect the timber to last between 4-7 years, which should be an adequate amount of time to support the tube.

I hope this helps.

The Trees and Hedging Team.
