How to care for your plants upon receiving your order.

Your trees or hedging should be planted within around a week of delivery or collection.

During that period, the plants should be kept tightly sealed within their bags to avoid any drying out of the roots. The bags themselves should be stored in a cool, dry place and out of the elements. Any overnight frost contact with the bags could be damaging to the roots within.

Barerooted plants can be either notch planted or pit planted. The notch planting method is more suited to plants with a smaller root structure, whereas pit planting may be employed for plants with a larger more fibrous root structure.

How to prepare and plant a hedgerow.

Careful planning is required in order to establish a healthy hedge. Consideration should be given to existing ground vegetation and the general condition of the ground along the proposed hedge line.

We recommend that existing vegetation growth is flailed or strimmed and that any remaining weeds and grasses are sprayed with a suitable herbicide prior to planting. This will provide a clean bed for the plants, increase the quality of the planting and reduce weed growth during the following spring and summer.

Consideration should be given to; type of woodland and its objectives, woodland layout, tree spacing, species choice and protection.

Trees can either be planted in rows at regular intervals, in curved lines or randomly spaced. Planting in rows simplifies future maintenance, especially if a mower is to be used to control vegetation.
